Abstract
This study examined how transformational and transactional leadership styles influence the adoption and sustained use of AviMet technology in Tanzania's aviation meteorology operations. Guided by the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology and the Full Range Leadership perspective, the study adopted a qualitative case study design involving thirteen leaders and key decision-makers from aviation meteorology offices at Arusha Airport, Moshi Airport and Kilimanjaro International Airport. Data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and follow-up semi-structured interviews, and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis supported by MAXQDA. The findings indicate that transformational leadership was perceived as more influential in promoting AviMet acceptance and sustained use through shared vision, visible role modelling, staff confidence, learning support, problem-solving and ownership of digital change. Transactional leadership also contributed to strengthening compliance, accountability, monitoring utilization of resources, corrective feedback and adherence to standard operating procedures. Leadership further shaped performance expectancy efficiency and productivity, effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions. The study concludes that successful technology adoption in safety-sensitive aviation settings requires a balanced leadership approach in which transformational leadership builds commitment and confidence, while transactional leadership maintains consistency, control and procedural discipline.
